On the Andossi plateau, among the pastures above Madesimo, lies the Giardino Alpino Valcava, a kind of alpine botanical garden that spans 70,000 square meters among meadows and woods at an altitude of 1800-1900 meters in Valle Spluga. Here, it’s possible to explore the mountain flora of this area of the Alps by following 10 different routes that wind through as many habitats, microenvironments where about 200 alpine species are preserved and catalogued, including 17 considered rare.

The Giardino Alpino Valcava can be reached from Madesimo either by car or on foot with a beautiful and easy walk, and the best time to visit is in May and September, during the flowering seasons.
